You must take a scuba divers course if your goal is to become a cave diver. This course includes four scuba diver dives. Your instructor will show you how plan your dive, and keep your air and orientation under control. The course will prepare you to dive in caves.
Safety
Cave diving safety protocols should follow the Rule of Threes. Cave divers should have at least three sources of light, and two tanks. They should also divide their gas into three separate sections to ensure that they have enough gas to survive the dive. If the dive team has experience in diving in caves, a more conservative gas management plan will be preferred. In addition to avoiding cave hazards, cave divers should practice safe diving practices.
Equipment
Cave diving requires the use of specific equipment. Two safety reels should be carried. One should be used as a guideline reel, and the other should be used during the dive. For cavern diving, each diver must have a safety rod with enough line for the distance to the cave's entrance. Most manufacturers will wrap the reels with guideline to prevent them from jamming when they make a new reel. To prevent a jam, trim approximately 10 meters (30 ft.) of line before you use the reel. This will reduce the risk for entanglement.
Maximum penetration
TDI offers a cavern diving course for scuba divers who want to dive in areas that do not allow direct vertical access. This includes dives into caverns, and overhangs. Although it is not necessary to take a cavern diving course, this course will give you the skills and knowledge to make the most of this environment. You will learn to navigate the often-hidden spaces safely.

Maximum depth
Cavern diving comes with its own limitations. You must never dive at night, and be aware of your limits. Cavern diving is more difficult than other types of diving. Cavern diving requires that you know your limits and learn basic cave safety procedures. Before diving in caverns, you will need to have had some experience. Then, you can begin a journey into the world of cavern diving!
