Santa Barbara Island

Santa Barbara Island offers some outstanding offshore dive locations. To reach these sites, visitors can board a visiting boat. These are excellent hunting and photography areas, and often rocky. These areas are also home to many healthy kelp bed and purple hydro Coral. Moreover, the visibility here is excellent for Southern California waters.

It is possible to kayak and snorkel on the island. If the weather permits, you can even go tent camping. A large pinniped population also calls the island home, including harbor seals, northern elephant seals, and California sea lions. You can find these animals at the rock areas surrounding the sea-lion rookery. These overlooks are scattered around the island.

Anacapa Island

Anacapa Island is home to a variety of marine life. One of the United States' first Marine Protected Areas is located in this area. It offers diving that is both great for novices and experienced divers. The waters surrounding the island are warm enough to allow you to dive with a wetsuit. In the fall and late summer, surface temperatures can reach 70 degrees F (21 degrees Celsius). However, temperatures can drop to as low as 50 degrees F (10 degrees C) in the winter months. A 7mm wetsuit should be used. Visibility is usually at least 100 feet (30M) during these months.

You can reach Anacapa by diving charter boats as well as the Island Packers. There are numerous dive sites available on the island, including a 40-foot-tall arch rock. You can also view these sites from the surface of the water using snorkeling gear.
